Picking a Real Estate Lawyer

Picking an attorney is a sensitive endeavor, mainly if your commercial/residential real estate is under threat. However, while searching for a qualified lawyer, keep the following considerations in mind, and you’ll likely have a more pleasant experience.

  1. When you have an issue involving a particular area of law, you’ll probably want to hire an attorney that focuses on the specific field and has tons of experience. This holds when faced with a real-estate-related dispute that’s possibly headed for litigation.
  2. If you already have an attorney – even if they don’t specialize in real estate – they can still serve as a rich source of referrals. Additionally, you can check with your local Bar Association as they tend to run excellent referral services.
  3. If you can’t easily access your local Bar Association, you can also do research via the internet. However, you need to be careful. Go through the reviews before making your decision, but take the reviews on the law firms/attorney websites with a grain of salt.

It’s recommended that you identify and meet at least three lawyers before making your decision. While searching for a real estate lawyer, don’t feel pressured to hiring the first one you come across. Do your research carefully so that you will find a competent lawyer who specializes in real estate law.
